Responsibilities
You will become a valuable asset as Chief, Digital Media Division, Office of Public Affairs, U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters. You will be responsible for coordinating a wide range of public-facing communication functions, including social media, visual imagery, photographic and videographic production, and public web management. You will oversee digital media systems, services, and communications strategies that successfully facilitate the Coast Guard’s achievement of public affairs objectives and fulfill the needs of agency publics in understanding Coast Guard programs and policies.

Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include:

Supervising the design, structure, and management of systems and services for the delivery of social media and web-based communications.
Developing and executing strategies to leverage a wide range of electronic communication techniques that are necessary to execute the Coast Guard’s external and internal communications efforts.
Developing requirements and specifications for systems and services related to the digital delivery of media, including public-facing websites, social media, and proprietary content management systems.
Coordinating media analytics and monitoring to evaluate effectiveness and recommend improvements in production and delivery processes, to include social media and web usage and performance.
Serving as Contracting Officer\\\\\\\'s Representative for media hosting and delivery vendors, including contract oversight, maintenance, trouble shooting, and evaluation.
Serving as the senior authority, consultant, and advisor on all aspects and ramifications of any public web and social media opportunities and challenges associated with the Coast Guard’s digital media presence.

Qualifications
At the GS-14 level: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience includes:

- Developing new methods, strategies and communication plans covering the complete spectrum of the Coast Guard\\\\\\\'s digital media programs.

- Devising, formulating, and executing digital communications strategies to promote awareness, understanding, and support for agency missions, programs, and activities among the general public and pertinent internal and external audiences.

- Presenting information in social media briefings and meetings with culturally diverse groups; giving presentations to employees.

- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with program representatives and counterparts from the Coast Guard, DHS, and other government agencies.

- Developing program recommendations from an analysis of public feedback gleaned from social media, or directly from the affected public, both external and internal.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
