Local, state and federal governments and some non-profit groups will help people who survive an emergency. They can help them meet their basic needs.

Donations, or things or money is given without being charged, can help people and families pull through. In very bad emergencies, the needs of people getting over an emergency can last a long time – even months or years. Cash and donated goods may be needed to help families and people pull through.

    Donate Cash

    • Cash is the most needed, best way of donating. Cash gives non-profit groups the most flexibility in helping people pull through after an emergency.
    • Donate through a trusted group. You see a lot of voluntary, faith- and community-based groups all around the nation helping people after an emergency. The national groups are a trusted way to give cash to people who need help after an emergency.
    • Cash puts money back into the local economy to help businesses pull through. Volunteer groups use cash donations to fund response and recovery efforts, get goods and services locally, and give monetary help to people to meet their needs.

    Donate Goods

    • Make sure you know what to give BEFORE donating any goods or services.
    • Donate goods that are asked for or needed by known groups. Unwanted donations, such as used clothing, various household items, and mixed or perishable foods, make groups shift needed people around to sort, package, move, store and hand out items that may not meet the needs.
    • Confirm the needs by contacting the voluntary group of your choice before starting to collect.
    • If you have a quantity of a given item or class of item to donate, and you need help in determining which groups to give to, you can make your offer through US CHEER right here
